This policy explains what personal information ContentSafer (“we”, “us”) collects through contentsafer.com and while providing our services, how we use it, and the choices you have. It applies to visitors of our website, people who contact us or report an infringement, and representatives of our clients.

Who we are

ContentSafer, 223-333E E Northwest Hwy, Palatine, IL 60067, United States. For privacy questions, write to privacy@contentsafer.com.

We do not use advertising trackers or sell personal information, and we do not knowingly collect information from children under 16.

How we use it

  • To answer your enquiry, prepare an audit and provide our services.
  • To review reports and file takedown notices on behalf of rights holders.
  • To keep evidence of infringements and of the notices we send, as required to support legal claims.
  • To protect our website against abuse, spam and security threats.
  • To comply with legal obligations and respond to lawful requests.

Legal bases

Where data protection laws such as the GDPR apply, we rely on: performance of a contract or steps taken at your request; our legitimate interests and those of our clients in protecting intellectual property and preventing fraud; compliance with legal obligations; and your consent where we ask for it.

Takedown notices and the people they concern

When we file a notice, the platform may share it, including the rights holder’s name and our contact details, with the person whose content is reported, or publish it in transparency databases such as Lumen. Information about the reported account is used only to identify and remove the infringement and to keep evidence of it.

Who we share it with

  • Online platforms, hosting providers, registrars and search engines, when filing notices.
  • Service providers that host our website and systems, such as Cloudflare, under contracts that limit their use of the data.
  • Lawyers, auditors and authorities, where required by law or to establish, exercise or defend legal claims.
  • A successor business, if ContentSafer is involved in a merger or acquisition.

International transfers

We are based in the United States and our clients and providers are located in several countries. When we transfer personal information across borders, we use appropriate safeguards such as standard contractual clauses.

How long we keep it

Enquiries that don’t lead to a contract are deleted within 24 months. Client records and enforcement evidence are kept for the duration of the engagement and up to six years afterwards, so they remain available for disputes and legal claims. Server logs are kept for up to 90 days.

Security

We encrypt data in transit and at rest, restrict access to staff who need it, and review our providers’ security practices. No system is perfectly secure; if a breach affects you, we will notify you as the law requires.

Your rights

Depending on where you live, you may have the right to access, correct, delete or receive a copy of your personal information, to object to or restrict its processing, and to withdraw consent. California residents have the rights described in the CCPA, including the right to know and to delete, and the right not to be discriminated against for using them. To make a request, write to privacy@contentsafer.com. We may need to verify your identity before we respond. You can also complain to your local data protection authority.

Changes to this policy

We will post any changes on this page and update the date at the top. Significant changes will be highlighted on our website.
